Our Story

In mid 2013 Jeff Hughes called Larry Landry and suggested putting together a group to charter a yacht to enter the 2015 Transatlantic Race.  Jeff and Larry expanded their discussion to include other Shelter Island Yacht Club members Paul McDowell, Jeff Pribor, and Brendan Brownyard.  Tery Glackin, Larry's boat captain on White Witch, was enlisted to keep an eye out for a suitable yacht to charter. Things went quiet until the spring of 2014 when Tery got a call from Bill Titus of Northrup and Johnson telling him that a Farr 60 that had been donated to Maine Maritime Academy was available.  As we began to look at the Farr 60 and a few other options, David Siwicki was added to the partnership group.  By August 2014, after an extensive diligence process, we set up Shelter Island Transatlantic Partners and chartered, with a purchase option, the newly renamed Prospector from Maine Maritime.  We took delivery of Prospector in August 2014 and started an extensive refitting process to get her ready for the Transatlantic Race.  We have entered a number of events to get to know Prospector and to train for the Transatlantic Race.  Our first effort was the Vineyard Race in August 2014.  Our 2015 training included delivery of the boat to and from Antigua in the Caribbean, racing the Caribbean 600 and the Annapolis to Newport races.  After the Transatlantic Race we currently plan to participate in the 2015 Fastnet and Rolex Middle Sea Races.
